Features
TBE buffer (Tris-borate-EDTA) is widely used for electrophoresis of nucleic acids in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. The buffer may be used as running buffer for gel electrophoresis, or when casting agarose gels.
- Convenient buffer packet for preparing 1 L of 1X TBE buffer
- Ready-to-use, with no pH adjustments needed
- Stable at room temperature
- 1X buffer will be 89 mM Tris-borate, 2 mM EDTA, pH ~8
Procedure
Prepare 1X TBE buffer by dissolving the contents of the buffer packet in 1 L of dH2O. The final composition of the 1X buffer will be 89 mM Tris, 89 mM boric acid, 2 mM EDTA, pH ~8 (do not adjust pH). 1X TBE buffer may be stored at room temperature indefinitely as long as the solution remains clear.
Note: We recommend using the same buffer for both casting and running gels for electrophoresis.
